Acara Solutions is seeking a Safety Manager  for our client in Buffalo, NY !

In this role, you will be responsible for leading the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of EHS programs at a fluid dairy manufacturing facility. This role ensures full compliance with occupational health, safety, and environmental regulations while promoting a proactive safety culture and driving sustainability initiatives. You will work cross-functionally with operations, maintenance, and quality teams to support safe and compliant plant operations.

• A strong background in occupational health, safety, and environmental compliance
• Hands-on experience in manufacturing or industrial environments
• Excellent leadership, problem-solving, and communication skills

Here's what you'll do:

Health & Safety:

• Oversee site compliance with OSHA standards and the Safety Management Operating System (SMOS).
• Conduct incident investigations, root cause analyses, and corrective action implementation.
• Provide site-specific safety training and development across all departments.
• Lead daily safety meetings and walkthroughs, promoting safe behaviors and practices.
• Develop SMART goals to align with plant safety objectives.
• Engage with staff at all levels to drive participation in proactive safety efforts.
• Review and follow up on open action items, near misses, and hazard reports.
• Coordinate and facilitate safety programs, orientations, and Lockout/Tagout procedures.
• Perform audits, manage documentation, and lead monthly safety committee meetings.
• Maintain the OSHA 300 log and develop Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) and One Point Lessons.
• Lead toolbox talks and ensure timely completion of safety manager compliance tasks.

Environmental Compliance:

• Ensure compliance with environmental laws and regulations (EPA, RCRA, CWA, CAA, etc.).
• Manage permits for air, water, stormwater, and waste.
• Conduct site inspections, audits, and risk assessments.
• Lead environmental programs focused on waste reduction, spill prevention, and recycling.
• Prepare and submit reports including Tier II, TRI, DMRs, and emissions inventory.
• Serve as the site's subject matter expert during audits and inspections.
• Collaborate cross-functionally to integrate sustainable practices into operations.
• Conduct root cause analysis of environmental incidents and provide training as needed.
• Support energy conservation, water use reduction, and waste minimization initiatives.

Position Type: Direct Placement

Salary: Up to $70-$95K/yr. **Depending on experience
Benefits: Comprehensive benefits package available!
Schedule: Onsite, with some flexibility as needed to support plant shifts; on-call duties shared with team

Job Requirements

Required Skills / Qualifications:

• Associates Degree in Safety Engineering, Industrial Hygiene, Health Sciences, or a related field.
• Minimum 5 years of EHS experience in a manufacturing or industrial setting.

Preferred Skills / Qualifications:

• Bachelor's or Master's Degree in EHS or MBA preferred.
• In-depth knowledge of OSHA and environmental regulations.
• Proficiency in reporting, data analysis, risk assessment, and policy development.
• Ability to manage priorities across multiple departments and shifts.
• Certifications such as CSP, ASP, CHMM, or CEM helpful.
• Strong motivational, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
• Experience in a unionized environment.
• Ability to lead by example in a dynamic, fast-paced manufacturing setting.

Additional Information:

• Must be able to work flexible hours to meet with staff across shifts.
• On-call responsibilities shared across EHS team.
• Physical ability to lift up to 40 lbs. and work in plant conditions (noise, wet floors, mechanical equipment).
• Confidentiality is required due to exposure to sensitive operational and strategic information.
