REPORTS TO Water Resources Operations Manager

FLSA STATUS Non-Exempt, Full-time

SCHEDULE Monday through Friday 3:00AM – 11:30AM

PAY RATE $18.14 - $24.21/hour dependent on experience

POSITION SUMMARY: This work involves safe and efficient operation, servicing, and light maintenance of street sweeping equipment used in municipal public works operations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: The essential functions may include the customary duties and responsibilities noted herein, however, the information below is not an exhaustive list of duties and instead serves as a representative sample of the expectations of the position.

  • Safely operate assigned equipment (primarily the vacuum street sweeper vehicle and equipment) in accordance with accepted construction equipment operation and practices; adapt operating techniques in response to weather and road conditions.
  • Follow assigned route in the cleaning and sweeping of the borough streets while ensuring safety of all people and property at all times.
  • May be trained to occasionally operate other light- to heavy-sized construction and maintenance equipment used in municipal public works operations such as: backhoe; front-end loader; tandem rollers or street paver; trailers for hauling materials and equipment; grader for street construction; trucks for snow plowing operations; snow blower; and composting equipment.
  • Respond to emergency situations in all types of weather conditions; may be required to participate in the established call-out rotation with other field operations staff to assist during snow and ice events.
  • Perform related work, cross-train coworkers, assist other departments, and perform other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFYING CRITERIA:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
  • Valid PA Driver’s License (no CDL necessary) or equivalent, with no major driving violations.
  • Basic mechanical skills such as use of hand tools to perform vehicle maintenance.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/QUALITIES: Theideal candidate should possess the following:

  • Present a positive image and attitude on a daily basis.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with residents, contractors, and fellow employees.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of basic mechanical skills; use of hand tools; and/or basic vehicle maintenance.
  • Ability to operate assigned equipment safely and efficiently; knowledge of the capability, limitation, and hazard of operating assigned equipment; ability to use judgment in assessing the safety of equipment operation relating to activities of others.
  • Ability to assume responsibility for the economic operation of equipment and to report operating problems to supervisor or crew leader as soon as possible.
  • Knowledge of snow and ice control operations.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions accurately and carefully.
  • Desire and ability to learn new skills.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT: The physical demands described

below are representative of those required for the position.

  • Work is performed indoors and outdoors in all types of weather conditions.
  • Drive and operate equipment for long periods of time to efficiently accomplish tasks within the allotted shift.
  • Walking, standing; stooping, kneeling, crouching, bending, reaching, pushing, pulling, and up to 50 pounds.
  • Use hands to handle, grasp, and write.
  • See and communicate effectively.
  • Use body to work, move or carry objects or materials.
