Program Overview

About The Role

Join Peraton in advancing the safety, efficiency, and modernization of the National Airspace System (NAS) through the FAA’s Brand New Air Traffic Control System (BNATCS) contract. As a trusted partner to the Federal Aviation Administration, Peraton helps deliver the systems and services that keep our nation’s skies safe and connected.

We’re looking for innovative professionals who thrive in mission-critical environments and are passionate about shaping the future of air traffic management. This is your chance to make an impact on one of the world’s most vital transportation infrastructures, working alongside leaders in aviation, engineering, data science, and systems integration.

At Peraton, you won’t just support the mission — you’ll define it.

The Security Architecture & Engineering SME serves as the senior technical authority for cybersecurity design, integration, and risk management within the FAA’s Broad National Air Traffic Control System (BNATCS) modernization effort. This role provides expert guidance across multiple program domains—ensuring all system architectures, technologies, and controls meet FAA, DOT, and federal cybersecurity standards. The SME advises FAA leadership, program management, and engineering teams on secure system design, policy alignment, and lifecycle compliance in support of national airspace mission continuity and safety.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the principal cybersecurity advisor and technical authority for BNATCS security architecture, design, and policy alignment.
  • Develop enterprise-level security strategies and frameworks consistent with FAA directives, NIST RMF, and FAA Order 1370.121.
  • Review and validate architectural designs, system integrations, and vendor solutions for compliance with FAA, DHS, and federal cybersecurity requirements.
  • Lead enterprise threat modeling, risk assessments, and Security Risk Management (SRM) analyses in accordance with FAA SRMGSA.
  • Provide expert input on Zero Trust architecture adoption, cloud security, network segmentation, and secure OT/IT convergence across FAA facilities.
  • Direct development and review of System Security Plans (SSPs), Continuous Monitoring Strategies, and Authority to Operate (ATO) documentation.
  • Advise on integration of Safety Management System (SMS) and cybersecurity risk frameworks (FAA Order 8000.369C) to ensure operational safety and system resilience.
  • Coordinate with FAA ATO, AJW, AJI, and industry partners to align BNATCS modernization with enterprise security and mission assurance objectives.
  • Provide leadership in cybersecurity governance, incident response planning, and architecture-level mitigation of vulnerabilities in mission systems.
  • Mentor engineering teams and advise task order leadership on emerging technologies, risk posture, and compliance readiness.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, or related technical discipline; Master’s or Ph.D. preferred.
  • 8+ years of experience in cybersecurity architecture and engineering, with direct experience in FAA, DoD, or national critical infrastructure programs.
  • Demonstrated expertise in FAA cybersecurity policy, AMS processes, and NIST SP 800-series controls.
  • Deep understanding of enterprise and operational technology (OT) systems integration in real-time, safety-critical environments.
  • Experience developing or reviewing enterprise-level architectures under frameworks such as Zero Trust, TIC 3.0, and FedRAMP.
  • Current professional certifications such as CISSP, ISSAP, or CISM required; SABSA, CCSP, or PMP desirable.
  • Proven ability to interface with executive leadership, federal stakeholders, and technical teams to influence secure design and policy decisions.
  • Active or eligible for a Public Trust or higher federal clearance.
