Retirement Benefits Officer Location Des Moines, IA (Southwestern Hills area) :

The Iowa Public Employees' Retirement System (IPERS) is seeking a professional to join our team in the Benefits Division as a Retirement Benefits Officer. IPERS is looking for a team player who is a customer service focused, self-starter interested in performing a variety of duties. Who We Are: The state's largest public retirement plan, the Iowa Legislature created IPERS in 1953 to attract and retain quality public employees, including those who teach our children, maintain our roads and parks, care for our most vulnerable residents and protect our citizens. Today, IPERS is a trust fund of more than $40 billion that pays more than $2 billion in annual benefits. What You'll Do:

  • Learn and maintain in depth knowledge of benefit provisions.
  • Provide pre-retirement phone, web based, and face-to-face retirement counseling.
  • Analyze member accounts and prepare estimates of retirement benefits.
  • Review and process retirement, refund, and death benefit applications.
  • Answer inbound member phone calls.
Schedule during training is 8:00 A.M. to 4:30 P.M., Monday through Friday during the training period. After the training period, the schedule is 8:30 A.M. to 5:00 P.M., Monday through Friday. What We Offer:

Minimum Qualification Requirements

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's Degree;

OR one year of full-time experience in job interviewing referral and/or placement, credit investigation, collection work or related public contact work obtaining, analyzing and/or evaluating data may be substituted for each 30 semester hours of the required education to a maximum substitution of four years; OR employees with current continuous experience in the state executive branch that includes the equivalent of two years of full-time work as a Retirement Benefits Technician.
