The Soundscape & Audiology Research Laboratory is seeking a highly motivated individual to join our rapidly growing team as a Research Specialist to further our research on hearing loss, hearing aids, and hearing-related behavior in daily life. Our lab highly values team science, a positive work environment, a commitment to helping individuals with hearing loss, and diversity of backgrounds, experiences, perspectives, approaches, and competencies of coworkers and the populations we serve. Dr. Erik Jorgensen is an audiologist, the lab principal investigator, and an assistant professor with the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders. His lab broadly works on making hearing aids more effective for older adults with hearing loss in daily life, from improving how hearing aids are programmed to understanding the impacts that hearing loss and hearing aid use have on social-emotional health outcomes.
The Research Specialist will work directly with Dr. Jorgensen to coordinate and implement several studies investigating hearing loss and hearing aid use among older adults. Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to, participant recruitment, consenting, data collection and analysis, data coding, generating data related reports, regulatory duties and quality assurance for current studies, literature reviews, and the management of student workers. Depending on experience, the position may also entail designing and executing new research projects, and contribution to scholarly publications and presentations. The incumbent will regularly work with colleagues from the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders (CSD) and UW-Health. The applicant's experience and materials should demonstrate interest in human psychological and behavioral research, a curiosity about human hearing and how it is studied, and a desire to improve life for people living with hearing loss. The applicant should have exemplary organization, attention to detail, ability to lead and work cooperatively in a team environment, take initiative, and problem solve. Professional development and training provided. We strongly encourage applications from candidates who foster and promote the values of diversity, equity, and inclusion, and are looking to grow with Dr. Jorgensen's research programDiversity is a source of strength, creativity, and innovation for UW-Madison.
