Department Summary The Cotsen Institute of Archaeology at UCLA is a premier research organization dedicated to the creation, dissemination, and conservation of archaeological knowledge and heritage. The Cotsen Institute is home to both the Interdepartmental Archaeology Program and the UCLA/Getty Program in Archaeological and Ethnographic Conservation. It provides a forum for innovative faculty research, graduate education, and public programs at UCLA in an effort to have a positive influence on the academic, local and global communities. The Cotsen Institute is at the forefront of archaeological research, education, conservation and publication and is an active contributor to interdisciplinary research at UCLA. The Undocumented Migration Project (UMP) is a long-term study of clandestine border crossing that uses a combination of ethnographic, archaeological, visual, and forensic approaches to better understand this social phenomenon in a variety of geographic contexts including the Sonoran Desert of Southern Arizona, the northern Mexico border, and the southern Mexico-Guatemala border.

Salary & Compensation *UCLA provides a full pay range. Actual salary offers consider factors, including budget, prior experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business considerations. Salary offers at the top of the range are not common. Qualifications - Experience with multi-modality research in a fieldwork environment. (Required)
- 5 years of experience in project management, program operations, and coordination within a higher academic setting. (Preferred)
- Experience with photography, visual anthropology, and photoethnography best practices and concepts. (Required)
- Bilingual- Spanish speaker (Required)
- Foundation of anthropological research skills coupled with familiarity and general awareness of complex migration trends and history, especially within the context of Central America, Mexico, and the United States. (Required)
- Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, ability to relay complex information clearly, concisely, and diplomatically as well as produce well-organized proposals, reports, and presentations. (Required)
- Ability to respectfully interface with individuals of various socio-economic, ethnic, and cultural backgrounds as well as different constituencies at UCLA. Interpersonal skills and professional demeanor to communicate and work effectively with a wide range of constituents, to include students, alumni, faculty, staff, donors, volunteers, press, executives and the general public. Public speaking ability to represent program effectively to large and small audiences. (Required)
- Ability to follow human subject compliance in a large university research environment, including confidentiality and other applicable university policy. (Required)
- Skill in using project management principles to ability to manage scope and schedule, ensure all projects are completed according to project timelines, work with stakeholders to define project requirements, scope, risks, organization, and approach. Familiarity with project/task management software to accomplish the aforementioned. (Required)
- Ability to coordinate the editorial, production, marketing, order fulfillment and printing of publications, including conceptualizing, writing, reviewing, editing, design coordination, layout, printing, proofing, marketing, and shipping. (Required)
- Strong internet research skills; familiarity with social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Instagram, etc. (Required)
- Willingness to work outside of normal business hours including some evenings, weekends and travel. (Required)
Education, Licenses, Certifications & Personal Affiliations - Bachelor's Degree in the social sciences, or in related area and / or equivalent experience / training. (Required)
