Position Summary



Under the general supervision of the Manager - Mason, Paint, Roofing, and Sign Shops and the direct supervision of the Supervisor, Paint and Sign Shops, receive work assignments from Supervisor and/or Lead Painter(s); inspect and maintain exterior and interior surfaces, trimming, and fixtures of buildings and other related structures. Appropriately apply various materials over surfaces producing both interior and exterior walls, ceilings, and surfaces. With smaller projects and minor repairs, evaluate problem. Discuss jobs with Supervisor and/or Lead(s) in order to keep apprised of job progress and resolve any problems related to the job; and submit completed work orders to Supervisor and/or Lead(s). Provide direction to Facilities Mechanic(s) and/or Facilities Worker(s). Maintain accurate hours on each job; operate and maintain a variety of power and/or hand tools and equipment of the trade; follow established safety procedures at all times; clean up job site and return equipment and tools in a timely manner; and respond to off-hour emergencies and overtime as required.

Qualifications



  • Working knowledge of: materials, equipment, methods, and tools of the plaster/masonry trade including achievement of operational skills; interior/exterior plastering methods including lathe, cornerbead applications, setting-up tools and work sites, scratching laying on, knocking down and setting. (Required)
  • Knowledge of and experience with various hand tools used in the trade. (Required)
  • Ability to properly prepare surfaces for painting and other applications. (Required)
  • Skill in: modifying and/or adapting designs, procedures, or methods to make necessary alterations and/or modifications; estimating material and labor requirements to accomplish tasks; performing arithmetic calculations to determine square footage of surfaces and areas. (Required)
  • Ability to: establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with peers, subordinates, supervisors, administrators, customers, visitors, and outside agencies; work independently and follow through on assignments. (Required)
  • Skill in: writing simple English phrases using correct grammar and spelling to complete reports that are accurate and easy to comprehend; reading standard English text in order to follow through on written orders and carry out assignments. (Required)
  • Oral communication skills to obtain or convey clear, concise, and grammatically correct information. (Required)
  • Working knowledge of standard safe work practices. (Required)
  • Working knowledge of UBC, OSHA and ADA requirements as it relates to the function, the ability to recognize discrepancies of ADA and Fire/Life/Safety codes at each job and report to Supervisor. (Required)


Education, Licenses, Certifications & Personal Affiliations



  • Other Type of Degree Satisfactory completion of a certified trade-related apprenticeship program or equivalent experience and education. (Required)


Special Conditions for Employment



  • Background Check: Continued employment is contingent upon the completion of a satisfactory background investigation.
  • Live Scan Background Check: A Live Scan background check must be completed prior to the start of employment.
  • Pre-Placement Physical: Employment is contingent upon the completion of a satisfactory physical examination.
  • Driving Record: The position is subject to the California DMV "Pull Notice System" and continued employment is contingent upon proof of a satisfactory driving record.
  • Ability to work overtime, various shifts, and weekends. (Required)
  • Ability to stand, crawl, walk, stoop, push, pull and lift or lower objects weighing up to 50 lbs. (Required)
  • Ability to work indoors and outdoors, in wet or humid weather, and in fluctuating and/or extreme temperatures. (Required)
  • Ability to work under adverse situations and conditions, e.g. confined spaces, dirty, noisy, etc. (Required)
  • Must possess California Driver's License, Class C, and the ability to drive a University truck or other light vehicle in the course of job duties. (Required)
