Job Description

Legal Intern Position I am a sole practitioner with an office in D.C. and in Reston, Virginia and am in need of a legal intern to assist me. The intern will work as an independent contractor and will be paid on a monthly basis according to an agreed-upon hourly rate. Remote and on-site. My practice involves a mix of subjects: (1) criminal defense and self-defense related matters; (2) civil litigation including patent and antitrust matters, general civil business litigation, and commercial landlord-tenant disputes; and (3) federal regulatory compliance disputes, particularly with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF). I also do some work as outside general counsel to a start-up company in the firearms industry. Job Description: The position calls for in-depth legal research on substantive legal issues and on civil and criminal procedure issues in federal and state courts. It also involves preparation of memoranda of law for my case management files and preparation of legal briefs for trial and appellate courts.  Excellent research and writing skills and strong computer/Internet/database literacy and skills are an absolute must. The position includes opportunities (the intern’s schedule permitting) to accompany me to court for oral arguments on motions, evidentiary hearings, and trials. I am currently preparing for a January 6 trial, which is scheduled to commence on January 21, 2025, and the successful candidate for this position will need to be available to accompany and assist me at trial.  Prefer a third-year law student for this position but will consider applications from second-year students as well. Preference will be given to students who have been invited onto a Law Review and/or have strong grades. Of equal importance will be the candidate’s willingness and ability to commit to and complete assignments from me which will consume days of the student’s time. That being said, I am sensitive to my intern’s workload at school and will work with the intern to balance the demands of his/her schoolwork and this position.
