Great Jobs KC, Inc. (dba KC Scholars) (www.greatjobskc.org) is a 501(c)(3) college scholarship and tuition-free job training program. Its goal is to support persistence and increase the college completion rate for low- and modest-income students across the six-county, bi-state service region and secure family-sustaining careers. The organization was designed to change thousands of individual lives and transform the region by preparing the local future workforce and contributing to the regional economy. The KC Scholars Scholarship Program awards traditional college scholarships to high school juniors, adult learner scholarships to adults 18 years and older, and college savings match awards to high school freshmen. The Great Jobs KC program provides tuition assistance to approved career training programs in high-demand industries such as construction, healthcare, information technology, logistics/warehousing, manufacturing and service careers. With the support of Great Jobs KC, adults 17+ and older can learn the skills needed in one year or less to secure a job with family-sustaining wages. Great Jobs KC supports all its Scholars throughout their college or job training and into their first year of employment.  

 

ABOUT THE ROLE  

Reports to: Associate Vice President of Development 

Location: Kansas City, MO 

Hybrid: 2 days in office, 3 days remote (technology provided) 

Status: Exempt, Full-time  

Salary: Annual salary based on experience

Key Performance Indicators:  

  • Raise $1M+ in grant funding

  • Submit at least one high-quality proposal for over $100,000 weekly.

  • Support over 90% donor retention by ensuring 100% of reporting requirements are met or exceeded.

  • Support team in researching over 200 high-quality donor prospects (i.e., foundations, corporations, individuals) annually.

  • Ensure Salesforce is 100% up to date. 

RESPONSIBILITIES  

The Grant Writer is an experienced professional, responsible for developing and implementing successful fundraising strategies for Great Jobs KC.  The prime goal of the Grants Writer is to secure the funds needed to support Great Jobs KC’s strategic initiatives by developing a portfolio of sustainable and renewable grants. Primary responsibilities include strategy, research, development, and management of a robust portfolio, proposal writing and submittals; identifying and researching appropriate foundations and other funder prospects; monitoring and reporting; and supporting fiscal oversight.  The Grant Writer will work with a variety of stakeholders and partners to create new funding proposals and ensure grants management systems are set-up to ensure project success.

 

Primary responsibilities include:  

  • Conduct thorough research to identify potential grant opportunities that align with the organization's mission and programs.

  • Manage the grant development process (for corporate, private foundation, and government grant applications) from start to finish, including drafting compelling and dynamic letters of intent and full proposals, developing budgets and timelines, and producing interim progress reports, as necessary.

  • Develop interim and final reports for grant-funded programs. Coordinate financial tracking,      grant invoicing and reporting with the Finance department and staff regarding the execution and progress of grant-funded projects.

  • Collaborate with staff to gather necessary information for proposal writing and program development.

  • Maintain accurate records of all grant submissions and funding sources.

  • Monitor grant deadlines and ensure timely submission of proposals and reports.

  • Develop/enhance a system for prospect research and tracking.

  • Review contracts related to grants to ensure compliance with terms and conditions.

  • Maintain and build relationships with funders, philanthropy and other strategic partners on local, state, and national levels.

  • Acts as an organizational representative in all situations, setting a strong example of professionalism, work completion and quality, and commitment to organizational goals and ethics.

  • Establish work priorities in a highly organized manner while maintaining flexibility in scheduling and adhering to quality requirements and deadlines.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE  


Education:  

  • Bachelor’s degree required. BA or BS in English, Journalism, Business, Nonprofit Management or related field preferred. ?

Work Experience:  

  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in successful grant writing, grant management, and project and/or program management and coordination in a non-profit setting.

  • Must have a minimum of two years of experience managing federal and non-federal grant application/award processes and post-award grants management.

  • Experience with program or audit compliance and proper documenting practices.
  • ?Knowledge of the grant application process, scoring criteria, and funding cycles.
