Position Title: Firefighter/Paramedic

Job Description:

Essential functions of the job

Respond to emergency calls and assist with the control and suppression of fires (make openings in buildings for ventilation and entrance; cut holes in roofs and floors when necessary; lay hose and operate pumping engines to ensure proper pressure; rescue persons trapped in burning buildings; participate in salvage work; operate engines, trucks, and other equipment)
Respond to calls for emergency medical treatment and provide any and all services that a paramedic is legally permitted to perform (cardiac monitoring; electrical interventions to support or correct the cardiac function; airway procedures; the administering of drugs and intravenous fluids; etc.); operate rescue squad vehicle to respond to emergency medical situations
Respond to other emergency rescue or emergency assistance situations (hazardous material spills, confined space rescues, trench rescues, etc.)
Clean up and restore or replenish equipment after returning from emergency calls
Demonstrate regular and predictable attendance
Maintain required licensure and certification
Perform miscellaneous duties as assigned

Is between age 18 and 35 on the date of appointment. If an applicant has continuous service in one of the past two years and is in good standing with another public fire division, then the age limit may extend to age 40

Has a current Ohio EMT-Paramedic certification or a Letter from an accredited EMT-P program stating that the applicant is enrolled and in good standing
Must have excellent physical condition and be able to pass a work-related ability test
Has a high school diploma or equivalent
Canal Fulton Fire Department is hiring for the position of Firefighter/Paramedic. Candidates are required to complete NTN's FireTEAM exam and Personal History Questionnaire (PHQ).

Salary Information: $47,000 - $54,387 (Depending on Qualifications)

Department Overview

The Canal Fulton Fire Department (CFFD) is transitioning to full-time staffing to better serve our community. We operate as a Combination Department with 54 part-time/paid-on-call personnel, supported by partnerships with multiple mutual aid fire departments to ensure comprehensive coverage and response capabilities.

CFFD is committed to Community Risk Reduction (CRR) through a broad range of services, including fire suppression, hazardous materials response (Hazmat), and EMS transport services.

The Canal Fulton Fire Department (CFFD) is proud to serve a distinctive and diverse community in Northeast Ohio. Our coverage area spans Northwest Stark County, encompassing Canal Fulton and Lawrence Township.

Job Requirements

An applicant for the position of Firefighter/Paramedic must give evidence of the following qualifications:

(1) Shall have attained the age of (18) on or before the date of appointment.

(2) Shall not be over the age of thirty-five (35) on the date of appointment except where the applicant has had continuous service, including one of the past two years, and is in good standing in another public fire division, in which case the candidate may be up to forty (40) years old on the date appointment. For the purposes of this experience credit, the maximum age is before the 41st birthday.

(3) An applicant for the position of Firefighter/Paramedic, in order to participate in the test, must currently possess a valid Ohio Emergency Medical Technician (EMT-B) Certification. Such candidate must have achieved a valid Ohio Paramedic certification upon completion of the probation period. Sufficient proof to satisfy the city's administrator of the required qualifications must be presented at the time of application.

(4) Shall have excellent physical condition and be able to pass physical ability testing.

(5) Shall be able to meet the health requirements necessary to pass a Fitness for Duty examination performed by the City's choice of physician. Professional fees for the required medial examination shall be paid by the City.

Prior Experience: Copies of special certificates and/or licenses, where applicable, are required.

Physical Agility Certificate of Completion within the last year from Cuyahoga Community College (Tri-C), Wayne County Fire School, or Stark State College. The Canal Fulton Fire Department will host a required physical ability test on an as-needed basis.
