Department Overview
The department currently has 18 sworn career fire personnel plus 2 Chief officers. All members are paramedics operating under the guidance of the South Cook County EMS system. Many members also participate in specialty rescue teams including, hazardous materials, technical rescue, fire investigation, and dive teams.

The Hazel Crest Fire Department responds to approximately 3800 calls per year out of 1 fire house.

Job requirements

Age: 21 years of age and under 35 years of age, unless otherwise allowed by Illinois state statute

High school graduate or GED

Valid IL driver's license

IL state certified Firefighter and IL state certified or nationally certified paramedic within 30-60 days after hire.

Valid CPAT and ladder climb certification within 1 year of hire date

Hiring process
Step 1: Pass the NTN examination with a score of 70 or higher.
Step 2: Complete an oral interview with the Hazel Crest Board of Fire and Police Commissioners.
Step 3: Pass a thorough background investigation, psychological assessment, medical screening, and drug screening. (Details to schedule appointments will be provided to candidates from the Hazel Crest administrative staff)
