Job Description

The Director of the Center for Data Analytics and Sports Gaming Research is responsible for overseeing all aspects and functions of the Center. This includes actively promoting and directing programs and activities, managing research, education, outreach, and entrepreneurship efforts, ensuring compliance and effective award management. The Director is responsible for developing programs that address problem gambling and prevention strategies. They design and implement data analytics educational programs to build capacity among students, faculty and staff.
The Director advocates for scholarly growth within the Center, the Graves Business School, and the University. The Center's structure is comprised of a Director, a Project Coordinator, a Data Science Researcher, and four faculty researchers assigned to the Center for 50% of their time to conduct research leading to journal publications, reports, and presentations. This a full-time, State of Maryland-funded position. The Director reports to the Dean of the Graves Business School.

  • Align the Center's mission and objectives with those of the University and the Business School.
  • Develop grant proposals that align with institutional priorities, identify suitable opportunities, and assistance in proposal development
  • Advocate for initiatives that enhance scholarly and grant-seeking capacity
  • Provide leadership to office personnel, fostering a customer service culture that supports faculty scholarly activities
  • Manage all aspects of the Center's management and operations, including hiring, training, and professional development of staff and research faculty
  • Develop educational programs such as workshops, seminars, webinars to teach data analytics to students at Morgan, and Maryland?s HBCUs
  • Offer Data Analytics workshops for the faculty and staff
  • Collaborate and support the University Counseling Center to develop gambling prevention program and offer outreach program to address Problem Gambling among students, faculty, and staff
  • Develop outreach programs, collaborating with other internal and external Centers to address problem gambling
  • Establish policies, procedures, training, and outreach to support research development and administration activities
  • Collaborate with the Business School Budget Officer and the VP for Finance and Management on financial policies and procedures
  • Coordinate with the Division of Institutional Advancement to seek private funders for faculty research interests
  • Represent the Center on various University committees and provide updates on programs and activities
  • Serve as a member of the Business School's management team and the University's "Council of Center and Institute Directors."
  • Manage the Center's budgets to enhance research activity
  • Create faculty development resources for grant opportunities
  • Establish an outreach program to expand grant-writing capacity among faculty and keep them informed about sponsored program opportunities
  • Encourage collaboration in research activity among faculty
  • Cultivate research activity among faculty and serve as a primary point of contact for proposal development
  • Provide resources for pre-award activities, including reviewing and editing grant proposals and offering counseling and assistance to faculty
  • Stay informed about faculty research and programmatic interests to identify funding sources and provide effective counsel
  • Support faculty in seeking external funding
