The Director of Security is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the property’s safety and security functions. This role ensures the protection of all property assets, team members, and guests by implementing and maintaining effective safety, security, fire prevention, and emergency response protocols. The Director ensures compliance with legal requirements and company policies by maintaining accurate records, certifications, and documentation. Committed to creating a safe and welcoming environment, this leader continuously works to enhance guest and employee satisfaction while driving strong departmental performance.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND AUTHORITIES:

  • Oversee daily Security and Loss Prevention operations.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local laws and safety regulations.
  • Adhere to established key control procedures to maintain property security.
  • Implement and uphold processes that protect owners, guests, and associates.
  • Investigate and follow up on any unusual activity that may impact the safety and well-being of individuals or the property.
  • Address guest complaints, resolve disputes, and mediate conflicts professionally and effectively.
  • Analyze situations and information to identify optimal solutions and resolve issues promptly.
  • Maintain strong relationships with local law enforcement and emergency service agencies.
  • Communicate relevant updates and information to team members in a timely and effective manner.
  • Share information with supervisors and colleagues through various communication channels, including phone, email, written reports, and face-to-face interactions.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management.

SPECIFIC DUTIES:

  • Assists the Hotel Manager in implementing fire prevention programs and emergency preparedness plans.
  • Conducts hazard and risk assessments, including quarterly OSHA/safety audits, incident tracking, and hazard abatement procedures.
  • Assists in developing detailed property shutdown procedures to ensure all areas are properly secured.
  • Creates and maintains a monthly checklist to verify functionality of all CCTV equipment, alarmed doors, and duress alarms.
  • Includes inspection of surveillance systems during routine patrols of all interior and exterior areas of the property.
  • Implements action plans to monitor, mitigate, and control potential risks.
  • Monitors and investigates unusual activities that may compromise the safety of guests, owners, or associates.
  • Oversees loss prevention operations including patrols, emergency responses, investigations, shipping/receiving protocols, electronic key systems, and Manager-on-Duty responsibilities.
  • Leads and supports the Safety Committee to promote a culture of safety.
  • Manages the first aid program for owners, guests, and associates.
  • Oversees the claims process, ensuring close monitoring of general liability and workers’ compensation cases to protect company assets.
  • Participates in hiring and interviewing team members to ensure the selection of qualified candidates.
  • Provides on-the-job training and follow-up development to ensure associates are fully equipped for success.

GUEST INTERACTION:

  • Consistently meets quality standards and exceeds guest expectations.
  • Identifies training needs and develops formal training programs or sessions.
  • Reviews and critiques the performance of the Loss Prevention team to maintain high levels of professionalism and service.
  • Delivers service that exceeds guest expectations to promote satisfaction and retention.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Two (2) year degree from an accredited university in Criminal Justice or related major. Or applicable experience
  • Minimum three (3) years of experience in a Security/Loss Prevention leadership role in hospitality or related professional area.
  • Excellent communication skills – oral and written.
  • Excellent guest service skills.
  • Knowledge of computer programs utilized in property management.
  • Able to work a flexible schedule, including weekends and holidays.
  • Possesses or ability to obtain FLSD within the 1st 90 days
  • Possesses or ability to obtain NY State Security Guard License within the 1st 90 days
Salary: $100,000 Per Annum
