Summary:

The Director of Communications is one of the company’s lead storytellers advancing HBG’s mission of making it easy for everyone to discover new worlds of ideas, learning, entertainment, and opportunity. 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop and execute creative, mission-aligned communications across all HBG platforms; create internal and external content based on media news, publicity successes, corporate messaging and evolving branding priorities  
  • Strategically discover new and innovative ways to promote and brand HBG by creating forward-thinking and engaging content 
  • Lead strategic communications campaigns and company-wide surveys, digital communications, intranet, newsletters and ad hoc communications including internal channel management (content design and cleanup, form + data admin, organization structure, form maintenance, content contributor coordination + training, analytics + performance) 
  • Maintain consistency in messaging and tone that reflects HBG’s values and culture across all channels 
  • Lead HBG’s internal executive, green and social impact communications, as well as corporate social responsibility (CSR) and diversity, equity, inclusion communications.  
  • Oversee HBG's corporate website and intranet analytics ensuring smooth functionality, effective vendor liaison, and positive feedback from employees and imprints on support and responsiveness 
  • Report website and intranet metrics such as increased traffic, time spent on page, and user engagement  
  • Create content and visual assets are timely, creative, and brand-consistent, elevating HBG's mission and pillars 
  • Increase communications reach and engagement via growth in impressions, clicks, and meaningful interactions across digital platforms  
  • Create dynamic presentations and launch branding communications such as advertisements in media and advertisements for industry partnerships  
  • Pitch executive for press opportunities, prepare media prep documents ahead of interviews and oversee outgoing communications and responses 
  • Lead event coordination, outreach and support including hosting media and press, talent and executives, content creation and townhalls 
  • Consult on branding and publicity opportunities and serve as corporate media contact as needed 
  • Partner and work one-on-one with executive board members on related communications, strategies, annual reports, employee resource groups communications, external partnership communications  
  • Edit and contribute to corporate CSR reports, investment and earning reports  
  • Coordinate industry data, and strategic messaging including resources, issues management, crisis communications, training and other special projects  
  • Create inclusive and equitable communications that makes all employees feel valued, welcomed, and able to participate fully  

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required: 

  • 7+ years of relevant communications experience with excellent written and verbal communications skills and keen understanding of the importance of brand voice and identity 
  • Passionate about corporate communications, media/publicity, storytelling, news, culture, social media and impact and diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging 
  • Maintain confidentiality and work one-on-one with senior leaders and press 
  • Curiosity that drives you to investigate new branding and communications opportunities 
  • Team player with knowledge of trade, electronic, print, broadcast, press and strong established relationships with key media reporters, bookers and producers. 
  • Proven ability to manage and prioritize multiple assignments in a fast-paced environment 
  • Openness to learning new technologies and platforms and ability to transition between innovative brainstorming to strategic action 
  • Aptitude for thriving in a work environment that is fast-paced and always evolving 
  • Dynamic forward-thinking leader with the ability to work independently and with a team 
  • High level of organization, attention to detail and time management skills  
  • College degree, masters preferred  

The role is NYC based and requires a minimum of three set days in the office per week.

The compensation for this position is $90,000-$110,000. Salary can vary based on a number of factors including skills, experience, and location — talk with your recruiter to learn more. There may be times that you will be required (or requested) to work overtime due to the nature of your role or exceptional workload issues or special projects.
