Overview

We are seeking a skilled Data Modeler to support our Supplier Quality organization at Electric Boat by designing, developing, and maintaining robust data models that drive critical analytics, reporting, and decision-making. In this role you will collaborate with quality engineers, purchasing, inspection, audit and leadership to transform complex supplier quality data into actionable insights.

You will play a key role in data extraction, transformation, and loading processes, building tabular models and developing impactful visualizations using Power BI Online. These responsibilities directly impact a culture of data-driven management that promotes continuous improvement throughout the enterprise. The Supplier Quality Business Intelligence and Oracle team and growing Business Intelligence community, are driving towarddeveloping and optimizing our products to support business expansion and drive productivity. The ideal candidate will enable the communitys growth and influence through championing data analytics principles and delivering actionable and reliable products to Supplier Quality and its customers.

Our team is actively modernizing supplier quality data deliverables, with a strong emphasis on customer engagement and support. The competitive candidate will have examples of demonstrating customer focus, and the ability to convert legacy reporting into intuitive products.

Primary tasks:

  • Developing automations and processes that grow Supplier Quality data analytics infrastructure
  • Championing data and modeling best-practices to improve our overall quality posture
  • Strong understanding of dimensional modeling principles (facts, dimensions, star schema, snowflake schema, conformed dimensions)
  • Experience with various data modeling techniques and tools (e.g., ER/Studio, Visio, dbt)
  • Demonstrate proficiency in SQL for data querying, manipulation, and schema creation
  • Developing and maintaining dashboards for data analytics and visualization
  • Mentoring and coaching customers on the effective operationalization of team products
  • Refining and formalizing modeling and reporting processes and requirements
  • Ensure data models are scalable, well-documented and compliant with current EB BI Hub guidelines and data governance standards
  • Supporting the evaluation and implementation of new technology solutions, including AI
  • Training and supporting Power BI dashboard developers within the Supplier Quality organization
  • Provide ad hoc analyses and support root cause investigations using data and additional tasks as requested

Responsibilities

  • Solid understanding of data transformation tools (Power Query, SQL Server, or similar)
  • Strong SQL skills for querying and manipulating data
  • Proficiency in data visualizations (Power BI)
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite
  • Familiarity with data governance, master data, and security best practices
  • Familiarity with Electric Boats data infrastructure, reporting requirements, business systems, and/or government compliance requirements
  • Team collaboration and communication skills both internal and external to the organization
  • Data literacy

Qualifications

Required:

  • A Bachelors degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Engineer, Information Technology, or a related field
  • 4+ years of combined experience in data modeling, data visualization, data analytics and/or reporting
  • Proficiency with modeling tools for developing tabular models (Semantic, SSAS, Visual Studio, SQL Server Data, SSMS, PBI Online)
  • Proficiency with Coding Languages (SQL, DAX, M Code)

Preferred:

  • Ability to design and optimize data models for performance, efficiency and usability
  • Experience in quality standards and the application of data analytics to assess quality performance and metrics
  • Proficiency with version control systems (e.g. GIT Lab, JIRA) for managing data model projects
  • Experience in BI Development roles
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to translate business requirements into technical solutions
  • Masters degree or higher in data analytics, data visualization, data science, or a related field
