Job Description

Mead & Hunt, a nationally recognized professional services consulting firm, is seeking an Archaeological Lab Technician to join our collaborative and innovative Cultural Resources team.

Responsibilities include:

• Artifact washing and labeling
• Data entry and database management
• Preparation of collections for final curation using state – or repository-specific guidelines, under the direction of the Collections Coordinator and Lab Manager
• Assist with collection deliveries
• Executing the company’s laboratory and reporting methodologies
• May also assist with archaeological fieldwork, artifact research, and public outreach if desired and as workloads allow

The successful candidate will have:

• Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in anthropology, archaeology, or closely related field
• At least four months of related experience in a cultural resource management, academic or similar setting
• A valid driver’s license

The ideal candidate will have any/all of the following:

• Ability to prioritize tasks and maintain an organized approach to work
• Ability to work with limited supervision
• Working knowledge of standard archaeological laboratory methods
• Basic knowledge of the material culture of the mid-Atlantic region
• Attention to detail, including an aptitude for recognizing inconsistencies
• Proficiency with MS Office, particularly Access and Excel
• Ability to lift 40 pounds, examine small artifacts and other materials up to 8 hours per day, read and/or write small numbers and letters legibly up to 8 hours per day
• Ability to occasionally travel overnight (less than 5 percent)

Wage Range: $19.00 to $22.00 – Actual compensation may vary due to other factors such as: experience and skill set.
